Privacy and cookies policy

sno.cam is an independently operated Australian website. Darcy O'Connor is the site operator and data controller for personal information handled directly by sno.cam. Privacy enquiries can be sent to [email protected].

This notice is written to provide the transparency expected by the Australian Privacy Principles and, where those laws apply, the EU GDPR and UK GDPR. The laws that apply to a particular request depend on the visitor, the processing and the operator's legal obligations.

The public site has no visitor accounts, payment forms, comments, newsletter or file uploads. sno.cam does not ask visitors for names, dates of birth, postal addresses, payment details or sensitive information.

• Network and security records. The server, reverse proxy and Cloudflare delivery layer may process an IP address, user agent, requested URL, referrer, timestamp, response status and error information when a page or image is requested.
• Messages. An email contains the sender's address, message, attachments and any other information the sender chooses to provide.
• Country and resort preferences. The first-party cookies sno_cam_country and aus_snow_cams_resorts store only the last country code and resort slugs selected in the camera viewer. On a first visit, Cloudflare's IP-country signal may choose the matching country viewer; sno.cam does not request precise device location for this feature. These cookies do not contain a name, email address or advertising identifier.
• Google Analytics (optional). Only after you accept analytics, Google receives page and interaction events, browser/device information and cookie identifiers to help us understand site use. Network requests also expose your IP address to Google. We do not intentionally send names, email addresses, form contents or custom user identifiers. Our initial page URL excludes query strings and fragments. Analytics advertising consent is denied and advertising personalisation signals are disabled in our tag. This choice does not grant consent to advertising.
• Aggregate site measurement. If the optional Cloudflare Web Analytics token is configured, the public site loads Cloudflare's browser beacon for aggregate traffic and performance measurement. Cloudflare states that Web Analytics does not collect or use visitors' personal data and does not use cookies or local storage for that product. A normal network request to Cloudflare still occurs when the beacon loads.

Site delivery and security

Requests are processed to return pages and images, prevent abuse, investigate errors and keep the service reliable. Where GDPR or UK GDPR applies, the basis is the operator's legitimate interests in operating and securing the service.

Country and resort selection

Preference cookies remember the country and resorts used in the camera viewer. On a first visit, the country may be inferred from Cloudflare's IP-country signal. They are used only to open the most relevant camera view.

Enquiries and requests

Emails are processed to answer the sender, resolve corrections or takedowns, administer privacy rights and keep an appropriate record. The basis is legitimate interests and, where relevant, compliance with a legal obligation.

Aggregate measurement

Optional privacy-focused analytics is used to understand page performance and broad traffic patterns. The basis, where required, is the operator's legitimate interest in maintaining and improving the site.

Google Analytics

We use your consent for optional Google Analytics measurement and its cookies. Refusing or withdrawing permission does not prevent access to the site.

Advertising

Advertising and its non-essential storage require the consent and controls described below. Consent can be refused or withdrawn without losing access to the site's editorial content.

Google Analytics stays off until you select Accept analytics. Reject analytics is offered alongside it. Use Analytics settings at the bottom of any public page to change or withdraw your choice. Withdrawal stops future collection and removes accessible Google Analytics cookies; it does not automatically delete data already received by Google. Contact us for a deletion request. Choices apply to this browser and device.

We store your analytics choice, the time and notice version in local storage under aus-snow-cams-analytics-consent for up to 180 days. This preference is used to remember your choice, including rejection. If browser storage is unavailable, Google Analytics stays off. After acceptance, the _ga and _ga_* first-party cookies distinguish browsers and sessions. Our tag limits these cookies to 180 days without refreshing their expiry on each visit. Clearing browser site data removes the stored choice and cookies.

The country and resort preference cookies are first-party, functional and last for up to one year unless the selection or browser site data is cleared sooner. They are not used for analytics, advertising or cross-site tracking.

Google AdSense is disabled unless three separate release settings confirm that advertising is enabled, content rights have been reviewed and an appropriate consent platform is configured. If AdSense is enabled on an eligible original editorial page, Google and its advertising partners may process IP addresses, device information, cookies or similar identifiers to deliver, secure, limit and measure ads. Camera, archive, contact, privacy, legal, administration and error routes are excluded from AdSense requests in the site code.

Before personalised Google ads are served to visitors in the EEA, UK or Switzerland, AU Snow Cams must use a Google-certified consent management platform integrated with the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework. The platform must provide the regionally required information and controls before non-essential advertising storage is used. Google publishes the current AdSense consent-management requirement. Google explains its processing on its partner-sites policy and provides personalisation controls in Google Ads Settings.

Technical request data may be processed by Cloudflare as the delivery and security provider and by the operator's self-hosted web, database and object-storage services. Email providers process correspondence. Google and its authorised vendors become recipients when you accept Google Analytics or if advertising is enabled on an eligible page with the required choices. Linked camera operators, weather sites and other external websites receive data under their own policies only when a visitor follows a link or loads their content.

sno.cam is operated and hosted in Australia. Cloudflare, email providers, Google and their subprocessors may process information in the United States, Australia and other countries where they operate. Where an applicable law requires transfer safeguards, the relevant provider's contractual safeguards, adequacy mechanism or another lawful transfer method must be used.

sno.cam does not sell personal information or maintain visitor advertising profiles.

• Server and security records are kept only for the period configured by the relevant infrastructure provider and as long as reasonably required for security, abuse investigation, diagnostics or a legal obligation. The operator reviews provider settings and avoids indefinite application-level request logging.
• Country and resort preferences expire after at most one year and can be deleted by clearing browser site data.
• Google Analytics cookie expiry is separate from data already held by Google. Event and user data retention depends on the property's configured retention setting; aggregated reports may be retained longer. Contact us for the current account setting or a deletion request. Withdrawal prevents future collection but does not erase previous reports.
• Routine enquiries are kept while they are being handled and ordinarily for no more than 24 months afterward. A rights, ownership, safety, dispute or legal record may be retained longer when reasonably necessary to establish what was requested and how it was handled.

Access to production systems is restricted, services are separated from the public network, and transport encryption is used on the public site. No internet service can promise absolute security.

Depending on the law that applies, a person may ask for access to or correction of their personal information, deletion, restriction, portability, or an objection to processing. Consent can be withdrawn for future processing at any time. sno.cam does not make decisions about visitors using automated profiling.

Send a request to [email protected]. State the right being exercised and enough detail to locate the relevant information. Identity may be verified proportionately before information is disclosed or deleted. A valid GDPR or UK GDPR request will normally receive a response within one month.

Privacy complaints can be made through the same address. The operator will investigate, explain the outcome and describe any corrective action. If the response is unsatisfactory, an Australian complainant can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner. A person in the EEA or UK may also complain to the data-protection authority where they live, work or believe an infringement occurred.
